Matthew McConaughey Opened About Meeting and Building a Life with Camila Alves

"We have a love that we never question," the actor said in an interview.

Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves have been married for eight years, but the actor is just now opening about finding her—something, he says, required some patience. In an exclusive video interview with People, McConaughey shared that he knew he would find his partner in life if he didn't rush the search. "I was like, 'Wait, just wait. Be yourself. She'll come if she's supposed to come. And if she doesn't, that's okay, you're still a good man," he told the outlet.

This method worked, almost instantly—shortly after his epiphany, he crossed paths with Alves in 2006. "That's when she showed up, and she moved right to left in front of my eyes across that club. It was as if she was floating. And I did not say, 'Who is that?' I said, 'What is that?' And then introduced myself."

Ever since that fated moment, the couple has been nearly inseparable; they became engaged on Christmas Day in 2011 and tied the knot just a few months later, on June 9, 2012. There was no need to wait—McConaughey had found "the one" in Alves, something he knew the moment he met her. "Since that evening, I have not wanted to spend time with any other woman," McConaughey shared. "I've not wanted to have children with anyone else other than her." He knows that their bond will endure the test of time: "We have a love that we never question."

Their unwavering relationship also informs how they parent their three children—with love, respect, and kindness, always. "[We say,] 'Our real merit comes from how we're trying to be as people, how we are as parents, how we love you, how we love each other. And Mom and Dad aren't perfect at it, but we try to do our best,'" McConaughey said.
