Massive Bolt of Lightning Flashes Amid Yellow Weather Warning for Southeast England

A massive bolt of lightning was recorded flashing across the sky in Portsmouth, United Kingdom, on September 5, amid a yellow weather warning issued by the Met Office that night.

Video recorded by Tom Yearsley shows a huge bolt of lightning briefly illuminating the coastal area of Southsea. Loving thunderstorms, Yearsley told Storyful that he and his friends decided to drive down to Southsea, as the open beach area would provide a good view of the storm.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning across Southeast England that night, warning of frequent lightning, gusty winds, and the possibility of 30 to 50 millimeters (1.2 to 2 inches) of rain in a few locations. Credit: Tom Yearsley via Storyful
