Wait, what?! In a shocking new twist, Gremlin decided to unmask himself ... without even being voted off! It turns out Gremlin was Oscar-nominated actor and screenwriter Mickey Rourke. Watch Gremlin's unbelievable reveal below:
Original, September 30, 7:53 PM:
It's cute or terrifying depending on who you ask, but one thing's for sure: Gremlin is one of the standout costumes on season 4 of The Masked Singer. This furry, floppy-eared creature is already dividing Masked Singer fans, with many having a tough time deciding who could be the celeb behind the mask.
If you find yourself wondering about Gremlin's identity, take a look through the internet's top theories and see if any seem viable.
Who is Gremlin on The Masked Singer?
First, let's take a look at the clues we have so far:
Gremlin is wearing a furry purple and white costume with floppy ears and sequined horns.
Gremlin's first official clue is: "Check the Gremlin manual and you'll see, I can thrive when the temperature is a cool 66.5 degrees."
Gremlin also says "life can be chaotic, so you always have to make time for play ..."
Now on to the internet's top theories:
Currently, one of the most popular theories is that Gremlin is comedian and television personality Howie Mandel, the host of Deal or No Deal and a judge on America's Got Talent. Specifically, fans are honing in on the fact that Howie lent his voice for Gizmo in the 1984 movie Gremlins (as well as its 1990 sequel Gremlins 2), which directly ties in with Gremlin's costume. Not to mention, Howie has also made an appearance on "The Masked Dancer" parody segment on The Ellen DeGeneres Show — which makes it all the more likely that he would appear on the real thing! Howie is also well known for being a comedian and a game show host, which would explain Gremlin's statement that "you always have time for play."
Other viewers think that Howie is a bit too obvious of a guess and instead are making the case for rapper and actor Ice Cube. These fans are shrewdly theorizing that the "66.5 degrees" clue may not actually refer to a temperature, but instead the Arctic Circle, which is a parallel of latitude at approximately 66.5 degrees north from the equator. This area is known for being icy cold in the winter, which viewers believe could be a play on the actor's name.
Famed adventurer and survivalist Bear Grylls, widely known for his television show Man vs. Wild, is another name being thrown around. Fans are pointing out that Bear fits the "thrive in a cool 66.5 degrees" clue as a huge survivalist, especially as he has gone on an expedition to the Arctic Circle (which is located 66.5 degrees north from the equator!) in his show Man vs. Wild. Additionally, some viewers are drawing attention to something Gremlin says in the first official clue video: "My competition may find me troublesome, but they'll just have to 'Grem' and bear it" (emphasis on "bear"!).
