Update, January 28, 2021, 1:05 p.m. ET: Jersey Shore fans, you guessed right! The Hammerhead was, in fact, Vinny Guadagnino. Watch the finned character reveal himself below:

All you internet detectives out there better buckle up, because it's officially time to start figuring out all of the disguised characters on The Masked Dancer.

For those not quite up to speed on The Masked Dancer, the setup of the new Fox show is similar to The Masked Singer ... but harder. Instead of viewers guessing which celebrities are behind the costumed characters after hearing their singing voices, fans have to make predictions based on each masked performer's great (or not-so-great!) dance moves.

Yes, there will be clue packages and one-word hints along the way, but generally speaking, this will not be an easy task. To kick off this challenging guess-who game, we'll start by analyzing Hammerhead — a super lively, blinged-out shark who stunned us all with a *jaws-dropping* dance number during the series premiere.

Who is Hammerhead on The Masked Dancer?

Here's a bit of what we know:

  • Hammerhead has gold and silver teeth.

  • Hammerhead wears a gold chain around its neck that reads "Hammer Time."

  • Hammerhead flaunts major biceps.

  • A clue revealed on Instagram stated, "I bought someone I love a car for Christmas and it Jingle Bell ROCKed!"

Based on this info, fans are already strumming up some pretty great guesses:

Okay, okay, so it seems a bit too obvious with the "Jingle Bell ROCKed" clue, right? Even still, the internet is pretty convinced Dwayne might be the man underneath the shark costume. After all, the Fast and Furious star did buy his uncle, Tonga, a new truck for Christmas back in 2015, so we can't count him out.

Why John, you ask? Well, the WWE wrestler told Parade back in 2017 that he idolized M.C. Hammer — the artist who made the catchphrase "Hammer Time" popular — as a child, despite often getting picked on for it. "I had the rayon pants, mustard polka dot, and the airbrushed overalls." Though Hammerhead isn't wearing overalls, he is definitely rocking mustard yellow. Could it be a connection?! Hmm ...

In our humble opinion, Vinny is the best guess at the moment. Not only did the Jersey Shore star buy his mom a Jeep for Christmas last year, but he's also done several stints with the Las Vegas Chippendales troupe, so we know he can dance. Plus, his best friend DJ Pauly D released a hip-hop track entitled "Silver and Gold" back in 2019, a possible connection to Hammerhead's sparkling teeth.

While we can't say we're as confident about the identity of Hammerhead as folks online, we're sure as more clues are revealed *no fin* can stop us from figuring this one out. Until then, happy clue hunting!
