Jordan McNair, a redshirt freshman offensive lineman for Maryland, was hospitalized following an organized team workout.

The school said Monday that McNair is listed in critical but stable condition. No other details were provided.

“He is in critical but stable condition,” the school said. “More information will be shared at an appropriate time, and in accordance with the wishes of the family. Our thoughts are with the McNair family.”

Added Terps head coach DJ Durkin: “Jordan’s an outstanding young man and a beloved member of our Maryland football family. Our entire program is supporting Jordan and his family during this time. We’re continuing to keep Jordan in our thoughts and prayers.”

Messages began popping up on social media related to McNair’s condition late last week, including late Thursday afternoon from Hakeem Sule, the coach of McNair’s alma mater, McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Maryland.

According to 247sports.com, Maryland canceled a recruiting barbecue and team camp over the weekend after McNair was hospitalized.

McNair was a three-star recruit in the Terps’ 2017 class. He appeared in one game early last fall but ended up taking a redshirt.

Players collapsing during offseason workouts has become all too common. Most recently, Kent State freshman lineman Tyler Heintz died after a conditioning workout last June. Heintz’s death led to the firing of Kent State’s strength coach.
