The star rose to fame for her role as Georgette Franklin on '70s TV series The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
Georgia Engel, former star of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, has passed away at the age of 70.
The actress's friend and executor John Quilty informed The New York Times that the cause of death is unknown-because Georgia was a Christian Scientist, she chose not to seek help from doctors.
Georgia, known for her soft, high-pitched voice, joined the Mary Tyler Moore cast in its third season as Georgette Franklin, the love interest of Ted Baxter's character. She also played Pat MacDougall in the sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond. Over the course of her extensive onstage and small screen career, Georgia earned a whopping five Emmy Award nominations.
The heartbroken Hollywood community shared their condolences, including Georgia's former co-star Betty White. "Georgia was one of a kind – the absolute best," she said in a statement to NBC News.
Fellow Everybody Loves Raymond alum Patricia Heaton also expressed her sorrow and disbelief via Twitter.
I am in shock - Georgia was an absolute angel - so dear, so sweet, so talented. God bless you Georgia! #RIPGeorgiaEngel https://t.co/jsKLGgQ262
