It is impossible to watch Virgin River without falling deeply in love with Jack — he is such a hunk! But Jack's good looks aside, the beloved bartender is the heart and soul of Virgin River and would do anything for the residents of his small town. Plus, his romance with Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) is just the sweetest!
If you've been binge-watching season 2 of Virgin River on Netflix, you probably want to know a little more about the actor behind Jack's lovable persona. In real life, Martin Henderson seems just as handsome, adventurous, and sweet as the character he plays on the show. Here are a few fun facts about Virgin River's main man.
He's from New Zealand.
It's tough to beat the fictional oasis in Northern California where Jack lives and works, but Martin's hometown is just as beautiful. The 46-year-old was born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand, before moving to Australia to pursue his acting career. (That explains his dreamy accent!) He relocated to the United States in his early 20s and now has a home in Los Angeles.
Martin isn't married.
There's no ring on his finger, but that doesn't mean Martin's available! The actor is dating a young woman named Aisha Mendez. Not much is known about Aisha or how they met, but it seems the pair has been dating since at least May 2020. They frequently post adorable photos of one another on Instagram and love to enjoy outdoor adventures together like hiking, sailing, and scuba diving.
He's a great dog dad.
After Jack found a stray dog in the woods in Virgin River, he gifted it to Charmaine to make her feel better. In real life, Martin is a proud dog dad to an adorably fluffy pup named Sammy.
"I love him so much," Martin captioned a photo of his pooch on Instagram. "Even when he gets coated in fine sand and leaves it ALL over the boat."
That really is true love.
Martin has been on a lot of other TV shows.
If Martin looks familiar, it's because you've definitely seen him before. The experienced actor has quite a resume: He starred opposite Naomi Watts in the horror film The Ring, made an unforgettable appearance in Britney Spears's "Toxic" video, and even got killed off in the action-adventure movie Everest. But Martin's most memorable role — other than playing Jack — was his two-year stint on Grey's Anatomy as Meredith's post-McDreamy love interest.
He’s BFFs with his "Virgin River" co-stars.
Although Jack and Mel have on-screen chemistry, the co-stars are just great friends in real life. They love goofing off together behind the scenes and even stay in touch when they're not filming Virgin River. If you haven't seen Alexandra's guest appearance on Martin's Instagram "cooking show," you need to watch all of the hilarious clips ASAP.
