On August 27th, Mars turns direct, giving the zodiac signs the green light to finally move ahead in our lives. With Mars in Capricorn, it's important to note that in astrology, Mars is the planet of ambition and action, and when this fiery planet turns direct it’s all systems go for us to move forward. While we may have been frustrated this summer, it’s right on time.
This has been a summer for the books! We had our triad of intense eclipses, super new moons, and the majority of the planets in retrograde motion. If we thought it was going to be just a regular old couple of months, we were clearly mistaken.
Whenever we see astrology cluster around so many big events like we did this summer, we know that means big changes are on the horizon for us. It doesn’t matter if we think our lives our perfectly mapped out, because life always ends up surprising us.
Back at the end of June when Mars went retrograde in Aquarius, many of us felt stalled or as if we were supposed to look more closely at different aspects of our lives. This could have been our past, our level of worthiness and acceptance of us, or just an obstacle in our lives that felt insurmountable.
But we still felt hopeful. There was a light at the end of the tunnel and it felt like, regardless of what we were examining, we were still going to be alright in the end, wherever that ended up being.
Then, the eclipses happened. Mercury turned retrograde and suddenly that light we had been focusing on began to fade, and somewhere within the past few weeks we lost hope. What we were working towards didn’t feel as destined, and there seemed to be more confusion than ever. Because of this during the last few weeks, once Mars moved into Capricorn, it has been extraordinarily rough.
Mars in Capricorn operates a bit differently than when he was in Aquarius. In the air sign he was all about independence, freedom, and being a rebel, but in Capricorn, he’s more concerned about building something, working from the ground up, taking his time and knowing that what he’s doing isn’t just benefiting himself but those around him.
It’s a very different energy, and because of this, once Mars shifted on August 12th, many of us felt hopeless. It was almost as if the lights were turned out completely and we had to grope our way in the dark. But as we near the end point of this dramatic retrograde, while we have been working on something these last few weeks, it wasn’t what we originally thought.
Mars is also the planet that rules the masculine, just as Venus rules the feminine. In this case, we could have witnessed the men in our lives struggling over the last 8 weeks, especially if they were at a turning point in their lives. This means that while we all felt stressed during this retrograde period, it’s likely that men have been affected even more deeply.
We have been unable to make any moves forward during this period. It didn’t matter what we did, or even what our intentions were; nothing would stick that would actually enable us to move in any direction in our lives.
Plans didn’t work out, words were taken back, interruptions ensued, and in many ways it seemed as if nothing was working. However, one important thing that’s difficult to see while we’re in it is that sometimes, in order for us to know where we want to go, we have to feel as if we are unable to.
At times in our lives it’s the resistance that informs us of our true feelings and desires. So while this retrograde period was no doubt frustrating for all of us, it also gave us exactly the knowledge that we needed.
Once Mars turns direct, we will be fully supported in moving ahead in our own lives. Mercury will have turned direct about a week prior, making it easier for us to discuss our feelings and thoughts surrounding future plans.
On the 26th, we also will see the annual full moon in Pisces, which will be an important one. This sign of love, forgiveness and acceptance is the perfect time to transmute all that has been revealed since the final eclipse at the beginning of the month.
Adding to this energy of newness and possibility, we have double Sun trines occurring right around this time as well, catapulting us into looking at ourselves and what love and life really mean to us.
There’s no doubt that during the past few weeks, Mars wreaked havoc on our plans to move forward, and we have been asked to discover why. We aren’t here to just do the same old thing; instead, we know that there is a purpose for our lives, an ultimate fate that while we have free will over, we also think is a part of something bigger than us.
Yet it’s difficult sometimes to discern or accept, so much of our journey in life and love is about discovering what our why is. Perhaps in life, our why is that we want to travel, or help people, or just simply experience life to its fullest, so that becomes our mantra or underlying theme behind whatever choices we make.
And the same is true for love. We all have a why — why we chose someone, why we married them, why they simply are our person.
It doesn’t have to be something concrete and rationale, but it still is personal. Perhaps it’s that they are the only ones to accept us unconditionally, or maybe it’s that they show us a world we never knew existed.
When we know our why, we also have learned its value for us. Because in order to make big life changes, we need to know, and now as Mars turns direct, everything suddenly becomes clear.
