Mark Wahlberg Shows Off His Six-Pack Abs in 4 a.m. Workout Video

Mark Wahlberg went viral four years ago after he shared his daily fitness routine, which starts with a 2:30 a.m. wake-up ahead of a first workout at 3:30—and he is still sticking to that schedule.

The actor just shared another look at one of his early-morning training sessions on Instagram, lifting up his sweatshirt to show off his sculpted six-pack abs—although he was actually training lower-body that day.

"Friends don't let friends skip legs," he said during the video, before performing a set of kettlebell deadlifts. (Wahlberg rarely ever skips leg day, as his massive quads can attest.)

You can see in the clip that he's standing on a pair of boxes and executing an elevated variation of this exercise; that's in order to increase the range of motion during the movement, ensuring that he gets the most out of each repetition.

"Whether you’re talking about your ankles, knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, or any of the other 250-plus joints in your body, your range of motion (ROM) is the degree to which you can move that joint from full extension to full flexion," says trainer Trevor Thieme C.S.C.S. "The amount of flexion varies from joint to joint, but any limitation in ROM affects not only your ability to execute exercises with good form, but also your capacity to express your strength’s full potential."
