Mark Wahlberg is thanking educators around the U.S. for their perseverance and dedication during the COVID-19 pandemic. And he’s doing so by donating more than one million face masks to protect at-risk teachers and their students.

Wahlberg’s activewear brand Performance Inspired recently teamed up with active lifestyle brand LifeToGo to donate 1.3 million disposable face masks to low-income schools across the United States.

"This is a great opportunity to partner with LifeToGo and help our students and educators across the country to stay healthy and safe so they can focus on education," Mark Wahlberg said in a press release.

Wahlberg, Performance Inspired and LifeToGo worked with school districts in select cities to identify low-income, at risk schools that could best use face mask donations. To date, more than 1.3 million students and teachers have received the disposable 3-ply masks from Wahlberg and co. Some districts receiving the generous aid include schools in Boise, ID; Chicago, IL; Cincinnati, OH; Grand Rapids, MI; Minneapolis, MN; Portland, OR and San Antonio, TX.

To announce the campaign and donation effort, Wahlberg released a video message thanking essential workers and teachers.

“As you know, this has been a year of change and stress for everybody,” Wahlberg says in the video. “But today, I want to thank our essential workers. You guys have kept us healthy, safe and supplied us with all the necessities.”

Including teachers and educators in this message of thanks, Wahlberg brings attention to an often overlooked “essential” profession.

“Everyday brings a new challenge, but we continue to pray for you and your families,” Wahlberg adds. “And please know your efforts are much appreciated.”

Social good efforts are a core part of Wahlberg’s Performance Inspired brand. Currently, two percent of net profits of Performance Inspired go directly to charity.
