Margot Robbie Repaired Her Own Oscars Dress After a Near Wardrobe Malfunction
Margot Robbie may not have won the award for best actress at Sunday night's Academy Awards, but she definitely reigned supreme as the ceremony's best impromptu seamstress. According to *People*, the I, Tonya star had a bit of a wardrobe malfunction during the awards ceremony, but she grabbed a needle and thread and took care of it herself before it was captured by any cameras.
The outlet reported that one of the off-the-shoulder beaded straps on Robbie's white floor-length Chanel Haute Couture gown detached from the dress and was swinging free once she was inside Los Angeles's Dolby Theatre. When a member of her team brought over a mini sewing kit, Robbie apparently threaded the needle and reattached the strap herself. "Oh, ain't got time for that!" she joked to People after successfully averting the couture crisis.
The Australian actress wasn't the only one dealing with an outfit mishap during Hollywood's biggest night. People reported that The Shape of Water star Sally Hawkins, who was up for best actress alongside Robbie, walked by Robbie during her sewing session and revealed that she too was facing a potential fashion faux pas. "I'm losing shells," she said, referring to the black shell-shaped sequins lining the hem of her sparkly silver Armani Privé gown.
And before the ceremony even began, Violetta Komyshan, a ballerina and the longtime girlfriend of Ansel Elgort, ignited some murmurs on the Internet when she inadvertently freed the nipple on the red carpet: The lights and camera flashes on the red carpet causef the dark mesh-like material of her strapless gown to appear see-through. Like Robbie, Komyshan was unfazed by the mishap, taking to Instagram stories later on Sunday night to post a selfie in which she looks down at her sheer dress, captioned with an IDGAF-esque "oops."
