Okay, okay, okay, we’ve gotta talk about *that* TikTok Maren Morris posted Wednesday night. Didn’t see it? Don’t know why it’s worth discussing? Ahem, allow me to catch you up.

So earlier this week, Nashville was bumpin’ with celebs and country music fans alike for the 56th-annual Country Music Awards (better known as the CMAs) which were held at Bridgestone Arena. And while Maren was nominated for one of the biggest awards of the night—Album of the Year, for her most recent album, Humble Quest—most fans assumed she wouldn’t be showing face on country music’s biggest night. (Spoiler alert: she did, but skipped the red carpet and a lot of the show). Why? Because the singer is currently beefing with Brittany Aldean, the wife of fellow country crooner Jason Aldean. And it’s like…drama drama.

Maren and Brittany began beefing back in August, when Maren called Brittany out for a transphobic Instagram post. The post was a makeup video which Brittany captioned, in part: “I'd really like to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I went through my tomboy phase. I love this girly life.” Yeah, really not okay, particularly given how many people don't have access to gender-affirming care right now.

Maren clapped back at Brittany shortly after the makeup Insta went live, writing on Twitter, "It's so easy to, like, not be a scumbag human? Sell your clip-ins and zip it, Insurrection Barbie." This sparked a Twitter war that resulted in Brittany appearing on Tucker Carlson’s show to discuss the situation, during which the extremist Fox News host called Maren a “lunatic country music person.” (Maren ended up printing that phrase on T-shirts, which she sold to raise money for charity. She ended up raising $150,000 for the Trans Lifeline and GLAAD's Transgender Media Program.)

In September, Maren told the Los Angeles Times that she didn’t know if she wanted to go to the CMAs as a result of the drama, since Jason and Brittany would be attending. "Honestly, I haven't decided if I'm gonna go," she told the publication. "I'm very honored that my record is nominated. But I don't know if I feel [at] home there right now. So many people I love will be in that room, and maybe I'll make a game-time decision and go. But as of right now, I don't feel comfortable going."

Ultimately, Maren let her fans (and foes) know she did in fact make it to the awards show with one hell of a cheeky TikTok—and one of the most flame-emoji-worthy ‘fits I ever did see. The video shows the singer strutting backstage at Bridgestone Arena in a black sequin dress with a neckline plunging down to her waistline, bottle of Dom Perignon champagne in hand. She gives a cute lil wave to the camera in the clip, which has Taylor Swift’s new banger, “Karma,” playing in the background. Mic. Drop. I see you, Maren!

The star showed up to her table with her husband and fellow musician, Ryan Hurd, by her side just in time for the Album of the Year award to be announced, which ended up going to Luke Combs. Award or no award—and red carpet or no red carpet—she certainly made her presence known. And judging by the bottle in her hand, she prooobably ended up having a good night regardless.

As someone who attended the show herself, I can say with confidence that the country icons in the crowd were truly having as much of a blast as it seemed on TV. The arena floor was packed with tables full of some of country’s newest stars—like Lainey Wilson, Cody Johnson, and Hardy—and longtime fan favorites like Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire, Kelsea Ballerini, and Miranda Lambert. The party lasted all night, with the stars sipping on Beringer Bros. Bourbon Barrel Aged Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon (yum) at their seats before most headed to the Warner Music Nashville CMA After Party at Nashville’s Twelve Thirty Club. Oh, to be a fly on the wall at that post-show soiree!
