Marc Jacobs Pulls Out All the Fashion Stops for His First Socially-Distanced Stroll in New York

If anyone has mastered the art of working-from-home style, it’s Marc Jacobs. Since the order to shelter in place was issued in New York several weeks ago, the designer has pulled all kinds of wild and wonderful outfits out of his closet, to the delight of his 1.4 million Instagram followers, including his now famous collection of sky-high platform shoes. And that's not to mention his hilarious lockdown makeup “too-torial” videos.

Last night, after spending six weeks indoors at a hotel in Lower Manhattan, Jacobs posted a selfie of himself masked up and geared up to venture out onto the streets. As he wrote in a caption, it was his friend hairstylist Jimmy Paul who encouraged him to take a safe, socially-distanced stroll around the block. Jacobs’s going-out look consisted of a pinstripe blazer, a white button-up with a strand of pearls around the collar, dark wash jeans, and his now signature Rick Owens platform boots. Naturally, he took all the necessary protective measures: a blue medical mask and matching disposable gloves.

Jacob’s outfit was relatively tame compared to what he has been experimenting with indoors, mostly pant-less get-ups. (Hey, we’re all doing it!) So far, we’ve seen the designer take a mirror selfie dressed in a cozy crew neck sweater and underwear printed with his husband’s face. He’s also gone sans trousers in a cinched Balenciaga jacket, Celine scarf, and a dainty pair of floral print Prada shoes. Perhaps the best leg-revealing look of the bunch occurred a week ago when Jacobs took a selfie in his bathroom, his lids coated in metallic purple eyeshadow, wearing a Marc Jacobs T-shirt, Capezio tights (complete with artfully disheveled holes!), and the aforementioned Prada platforms, an ensemble he described as an ode to The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

It seems that Jacobs’s jaunt outdoors was somewhat anticlimactic. He wrote that the experience left him yearning for “the comfort and safety of [his] room right now.” Either way, the outfit hit just the right note.
