There Are So Many (Too Many?) Consoles to Choose From This Year

Consoles, consoles, consoles. Too many consoles. Consoles everywhere. How is anyone, especially an aspiring gamer, supposed to know where to start, and more importantly, when to start? We’re in a twilight year, with Sony and Microsoft about to declare a winner for this console generation (spoiler alert, it's PlayStation) and move onto the next gen. Then there’s Nintendo, the consistent fan favorite (save for the Wii U, don’t @ me) that doesn't play by the console war rules, but instead works on its own damn timeline. Good for you, Nintendo. And that's not to mention all the new retro-inspired consoles and virtual reality headsets joining the fight, as well as Google's promising yet still-lackluster Stadia launch.

It’s nearly impossible to keep track of what's available, what's worth the cash, and what might make its way into the company of the best consoles of all time.
