Manifesters, you did it.

Immediately after NBC canceled Manifest this summer, determined fans of the mystery plane drama rallied together and refused to let the show sink. In the end, their efforts paid off — in a twist of fate, on August 28 at 8:28 a.m. PT (a nod to the show's Flight 828), Netflix announced that Manifest will be returning for season 4.

What saved Manifest? It sounds like the high viewership numbers on Netflix convinced executives to revive the series. "Fan enthusiasm is always great to see, but it really isn’t the emails or tweets — it was all about the viewing," Bela Bajaria, Netflix's head of global TV, told The Hollywood Reporter. "To save a show in this way, it has to have that fan viewing. I appreciate their passion and being connected to the characters, but the viewing is the thing that saved the show.”

ICYMI, NBC canceled Manifest in mid-June. Immediately after, loyal viewers of the three-season series began a passionate online movement to have another network or streaming service pick it up. After weeks of signing petitions, rewatching the series on Netflix and keeping the #SaveManifest movement front and center on social media, fans were heard loud and clear. Ultimately, Netflix decided to take on the show, a lost opportunity NBC reportedly tried to recover from but couldn't.

While celebrating the resurrection of the show, here's what you need to know about Manifest season 4:

When will Manifest season 4 premiere?

A premiere date for Manifest season 4 has not been announced yet, but we do know a few details. For instance, we know for a fact that season 4 will wrap up the entire series. What's more, the fourth and final installment of the drama will have a total of 20 episodes and will likely start airing in late 2022.

As promised, series creator and showrunner Jeff Rake is already hard at work bringing the new season to life. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, he shared that the show's writers are brainstorming ideas. He’s aiming for production to begin before the end of the year but recognizes the importance of keeping Manifest’s depth.

“I'm hopeful that cameras are rolling in November or December latest,” he told the outlet. “We're going to work as fast as we can while still keeping an eye on quality control, because we want to get episodes to everyone as soon as possible. We also want them to be excellent. It might take a minute for a brand-new batch of episodes to show up in people's homes, but it's going to be worth the wait.”

What’s more, season 4 probably won’t be released all at once. According to the “What I’m Hearing…” newsletter by former Hollywood Reporter editor Matthew Belloni, the 20 episodes will be "split into at least two ‘parts’ a la Lucifer season 5.” It’s a change from the weekly schedule previously adopted by NBC and almost certainly will mean viewers will be left on a cliffhanger halfway through the season.

What will season 4 of Manifest be about?

With writers just getting together to develop character storylines, it’s too early to know what season 4 of Manifest will entail. But one thing is certain: Just because the drama is now on Netflix, doesn’t mean it'll change dramatically.

“The good news for the fans is that they can absolutely expect the same show that they've been watching,” Jake said to EW. “Netflix has been so lovely in my conversations with them so far. They've made it quite clear that they want us to keep making the same show that we've been making. The audience shouldn't be concerned that the tone of the show is going to shift, or the method of storytelling is going to shift. We're going to keep making the show that everyone fell in love with.”

He also hinted that the theme of “faith” will continue being part of the show.

Who will be in the cast of Manifest season 4?

According to Deadline, several of the Manifest cast members have struck deals with Netflix to reprise their characters. Those for sure coming back for season 4 include:

  • Melissa Roxburgh as Michaela Stone

  • Josh Dallas as Ben Stone

  • J.R. Ramirez as Jared Vasquez

  • Parveen Kaur as Saanvi Bahl

  • Holly Taylor as Angelina Meyer

  • Luna Blaise as Olivia Stone

  • Ty Doran as an older version of Cal Stone

As for those not returning, the outlet reports that actress Athena Karkanis (who plays Grace Stone) will not come back after her character died in the season 3 finale. What's more, Jack Messina (a.k.a. Cal) will also not return to the series. As for Matt Long playing Zeke Landon, we don't have confirmation just yet.
