'The Mandalorian' Episode Two Confirms a Major Star Wars Fan Theory
Everybody loves Baby Yoda. At the end of The Mandalorian Episode One, it was revealed that our hero's bounty was an adorable 50-year-old infant of the same mysterious, unnamed species as Yoda and Yaddle. It might be cute as hell, but it's also very important. As we learned in Episode One, the Empire desperately wants to get its hands on Baby Yoda for some sort of evil experiment. And fans theorized that the reason the Empire wants to study Baby Yoda is to figure out what makes it age so slowly and live for centuries.
Emperor Palpatine might have died in the events of Return of the Jedi, which took place five years before The Mandalorian, but we know he's somehow lingered and will come back in The Rise of Skywalker. So it's possible that Baby Yoda could be the key to his return—or at least the remnants of the Empire hopes so. But, there's another layer to this too. Some of the most popular Rise of Skywalker fan theories believe that the Emperor uses young Force sensitive children as host bodies for his spirit to survive. And it's possible that Baby Yoda could fit into this theory.
As I pointed out earlier this week, the only other two members of this species that we've seen in the Star Wars live-action films are both powerful Force users. So, is it possible that this species has a strong connection to the Force?
In The Mandalorian Episode Two we learn this is indeed the case—at least when it comes to our adorable Baby Yoda.
The second chapter of this new Disney+ series follows our titular Mandalorian as he's attempting to bring his bounty—dear, sweet Baby Yoda—back to his ship. Unfortunately, a bunch of Jawas have stripped all the parts from his ship, stranding him on the planet. Eventually, the Mandalorian resolves to trade with the Jawas for the parts he wants. But the only thing they'll trade for is an egg inside the lair of some horrible alien beast. The fight with the beast doesn't go well for Mando. And when he's beaten down and the alien is charging him, Baby Yoda lifts his hand and the beast stops. It's lifted into the air long enough for the Mandalorian to kill it.
And, with this, we know that our adorable Baby Yoda is indeed a powerful Force user like Yoda and Yaddle. So, this supports the theory that this mysterious species has a strong connection to the Force. It also makes a strong case for theories out there about why the Empire is seeking this child so desperately. I've even see some fans theorize that Baby Yoda is the offspring of Yoda and Yaddle, and given the Force powers this little tyke possesses, that might be true.
