Man slams sister over ‘horrible’ babysitting request: ‘One of the most insane things I’ve ever heard’

A man is upset that his sister expects him to babysit her kids every single day.

He took to Reddit’s “Am I the A******” forum to see if he was justified in putting his foot down. While he was working from home he volunteered to take care of his sister’s kids. But when he discovered his brother-in-law was laid off and sitting at home, the Reddit poster refused to continue babysitting.

“I’ve been working from home ever since the pandemic but my sister, Bella and her husband, Bill can’t,” he explained. “Daycares were closed last year and no one can look after their children. So I volunteered and had my schedule adjusted from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. so I can take care of them properly. The problems started in late October last year when Bill was laid off. I thought he was going to look out for their children so I was surprised when they still dropped them off. I asked Bella about it and she explained that Bill was working on some renovations in their house. I was okay with that but some heads up would have been fine.”

But when the renovations were done, Bella and Bill still expected the Reddit poster to babysit.

“I told my sister that if Bill is not doing anything, can he take care of their kids then,” the Reddit poster wrote. “She said yes. And for three days I was alone. That was short-lived when Bella came to drop off the kids I said that my work schedule was back to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. I can’t possibly care for them while doing my work. She said it won’t take long just a trip to the grocery. The thing is they didn’t show up until 6 p.m. Same thing happened the next day. This time Bill is job hunting. I snapped. I said they should talk about this and get a paid babysitter instead of just dropping off the kids without notice. She insisted it wouldn’t take long. I didn’t believe her anymore so I refused. She left angry. I decided to work at the office instead. I told them the news over dinner at my house last weekend. They stared at me for a long time then they just started saying that was unfair.”

Reddit users thought the brother was being taken advantage of.

“Absolutely horrible people. That’s just one of the most insane things I’ve ever heard,” one person commented.

“She’s taking advantage of you and is getting upset she’s being called out,” someone wrote.

“You gave them an inch, and they took a mile,” another wrote.
