Man sentenced to 20 years for the shooting death of Ogletown man in 2018

A man who pleaded guilty for his part in the death of an Ogletown man in 2018 will spend 20 years in prison.

Kalif Reeves, 24, was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Eric Davis for killing 22-year-old William Laws, who was shot a few blocks from his home on Davies Road in Chestnut Hill Estates.

About 2 a.m. on March 9, 2018, New Castle County police said officers responded to Malvern Road and Augusta Drive for a reported shooting.

There, Laws was found with a gunshot wound to his chest, police said, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The following day, police arrested and charged three men, Shai Thodos, Noah Youngs and Edwin Rivera with Laws' shooting death. They pleaded guilty to their part in the crime and were sentenced, according to the Delaware Attorney General's Office.

Reeves was named as a suspect and a warrant was issued for his arrest, police said at the time. Later that month, a federal arrest warrant was issued for Reeves by the U.S. District Court of Delaware for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution and the FBI put up a $10,000 reward for information leading to his capture, according to police.

Reeves was arrested two months later in Philadelphia and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, according to court documents. He was sentenced last month.

Court records charging Reeves conceal from public view affidavits and incident reports that would indicate why police believe he committed the crime.
