Man records video of 'island of trees' floating by his home as Hurricane Dorian hits South Carolina
A man who stayed at his Pawleys Island, South Carolina home during Hurricane Dorian captured bizarre footage of what appears to be an “island of trees” floating by.
Brandon Barclay told Storyful he was in the process of preventing water from getting into his home on Thursday as the Category 1 hurricane poured almost a foot of rain in the area, with winds reaching over 70 miles per hour.
During the five hours Brandon spent trying to prevent his home from flooding during the storm, he went to survey the water level in the back of the house. It was then he witnessed what appeared to be an island of trees casually floating by in the flooded water.
“I had been managing water all day and I was taking a break from being outside in the storm when I noticed an entire small forest of trees somewhere they were not supposed to be,” Brandon told Storyful.
Brandon was home alone, as his wife Amanda and four-year-old daughter stayed with his parents in Myrtle Beach.
“Typically, we see an occasional alligator swimming by or some egrets,” Amanda told WCSC of the scene outside their home.
Thankfully, Hurricane Dorian proved not to be as devastating in South Carolina as predicted.
Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg tweeted on Thursday that the city was "counting our blessings."

On Friday morning, Hurricane Dorian made landfall in North Carolina, over the Outer Banks. According to ABC News, "hundreds" of people may be trapped as a result of the storm on Ocracoke Island, as waters are quickly rising.
As Dorian moves away from land Friday afternoon, the Northeast will continue to see its impacts. Coastal flood advisories have been issued for parts of New Jersey, New York and Connecticut, and a tropical storm watch is in effect for Cape Cod and eastern Maine.
