Malcolm Jenkins responds to Trump with statement about empathy

Months ago, during the national anthem, Malcolm Jenkins raised his right fist on the Philadelphia Eagles sideline. He did so in support of equality, regardless of race or socioeconomic status.

But he did not kneel.

That’s why, a day after President Donald Trump disinvited the Eagles from the White House, Jenkins wrote a statement clarifying that no member of the Eagles knelt for the national anthem. Nor were they anti-America, anti-flag or anti-military, he said. Jenkins’s ultimate message? “The decision was made to lie,” Jenkins wrote.

Jenkins, who last year accounted for 76 combined tackles and recorded two interceptions, has often been outspoken on the meaning behind players kneeling for the national anthem. This statement is yet another example.

“The fight continues,” Jenkins wrote.
