Making homemade ranch dressing is much easier than it sounds
Whether it’s buffalo-style cauliflower bites or classic chicken tenders, it goes without saying — you’ll need a dip. Jess of jessiesayhey, a TikTok page full of the Arizona foodie’s recipes and tips, shared her homemade ranch dressing recipe.
To start off, you’ll need Jess’ easy buttermilk recipe (be sure to check out her chicken strip recipe in the same video if you have the hankering). All it takes is, one and a half cups of regular milk, half a cup of cream and two tablespoons of vinegar. Just mix it up in a container and wait 10 minutes.
Now you’re ready to make some ranch. But don’t worry because it’s literally just as simple as the buttermilk!
First, chop some dill and parsley then add it to your buttermilk. Next, toss in some onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, mayonnaise and sour cream. Finally, shake it until it’s melded. Boom, you’ve got homemade ranch.
Unsurprisingly, ranch dressing has a huge fandom. Jess’ video racked up over 603,000 TikTok views.
“Okay, but now I crave buttermilk ranch,” one user wrote.
“Omfg, I never knew that’s how you make ranch! Mind blown,” someone commented.
“I made this and my whole family loved it,” another said.
While many foods have their origins obscured, ranch dressing is a fairly new invention. The magic sauce was created in 1949 by the Alaskan plumber Steve Henson who perfected the dressing while cooking for his coworkers. Henson and his wife later bought a ranch in California, named the Hidden Valley Ranch. After becoming a local favorite, the couple sold the recipe to Clorox for $8 million in 1972.
But Jess’s recipe is of course free!
