Makeup Artist Who Lost 200 Pounds Says This Treatment Was Key to Rejuvenating Her Look

New Zealand makeup artist Simone Anderson first caught the attention of the media when she dropped almost 200 pounds in 11 months, but now she’s back in the limelight for a different reason—this time, revealing that she opted to have facial fillers injected.

In a recent Instagram photo, Anderson revealed that her weight loss went beyond just her body, seriously changing the way her face looked, as well. “After losing 92 kg, I am covered in loose skin,” she says, even after the skin removal surgery she underwent last year. “My cheeks sagged, leaving me with big indent lines around my nose to mouth, which is also something that can happen as you age and your skin loses its elasticity.” Anderson explains to People that there are certain parts of the body you can get skin surgically removed from, but the face isn’t one of them. “I started looking into options of what I can do to rejuvenate the face, and that’s when I discovered fillers. It’s a really non-invasive procedure, and I thought ‘Why not?’”

Fillers have become popular for their ability to quickly fill out and firm up sagging facial skin (like around the eyes and the forehead), so it’s no surprise that Anderson chose to get them injected to finish off her look and make her feel even more confident. “It’s been incredible,” Anderson says to People. “I was doing everything in my power to disguise [the lines on my face], but now I don’t have to worry about it because they have disappeared. I look youthful, as I should at 25 years old. It instantly improved my self-confidence. I really like looking at myself in the mirror.”

Montclair, NJ, dermatologist Jeanine Downie, MD, agrees with Anderson, saying that as we lose weight, we also lose it dramatically from our faces, especially when we’re over the age of 30. “Many people are selecting fillers like Voluma, Restylane Lyft, Radiesse and now Volbella to help improve the contours of their face and make them not sag,” she says, adding that fillers make both males and females look younger in the process. “I highly recommend filler during weight loss and after weight loss. My patients rely on this to keep themselves looking great.”

“I know friends that have had it done but don’t talk about it because they’re ashamed,” she tells People, explaining why she doesn’t think anything is wrong with using fillers to enhance your look. “I think the more openly we talk about that sort of thing, the more it’s not going to be a big deal.”
