Dark Desire (Oscuro Deseo in Spanish) is equal parts mysterious and steamy. The Mexican thriller drama opens with a law professor named Alma Solares (Maite Perroni) walking away from a bloody scene in handcuffs. To understand how she ended up in police custody, viewers are taken back six weeks earlier when she first meets Dario Guerra (Alejandro Speitzer).
Alma goes away one weekend to be with her recently divorced best friend, Brenda Castillo (María Fernanda Yepes). But Alma can’t get her mind off of her husband, Leonardo Solares (Jorge Poza), who she suspects is having an affair. On a night out, Alma lets loose and sleeps with Dario. Despite trying to put it behind her, Alma's life is forever changed when Dario steps into her classroom. What’s more, Brenda is murdered, and Alma’s brother-in-law, Esteban Solares (Erik Hayser), is convinced Dario did it.

When is season 2 of Dark Desire (Oscuro Deseo) premiering?
Dark Desire has officially been renewed for season 2. Netflix announced the second installment on Twitter in August 2020, only a month after the show’s premiere. The streaming service, known for keeping its viewership numbers under wraps, shared that the first season of Dark Desire made history after 35 million people watched it in its first 28 days. This stat makes Dark Desire's premiere season the most successful first season of a non-English-language series on Netflix ever.

Maite tells Good Housekeeping that while the popularity of season 1 grew, the cast was told that a second season was confirmed. “We were watching what was happening with our project and we were like ‘Oh, my god. This is amazing!’”
When will filming for Dark Desire (Oscuro Deseo) season 2 begin?
Like the U.S. entertainment industry, the coronavirus pandemic disrupted Mexico's production of shows and movies. Although Dark Desire season 2 was officially confirmed in the summer 2020, the cast couldn’t immediately return to the studio to pick up where the show left off.
Luckily, Maite and the rest of the crew will reunite soon. According to the 37-year-old actress, Dark Desire season 2 will begin filming between January and March 2021. The release date might then be in late 2021 or 2022.“We’re waiting for the best moment to film it," Maite tells us.
Given that the first season is comprised of 18 episodes, Dark Desire season 2 will likely have a similar episode count.

Great question! Like fans, Maite is excited to see what the writers have in store next.
“They said the second season is going to be amazing,” she says. “I don’t have any idea because they don’t tell us what’s going on or what they’re thinking about writing. But they’re very excited, and I can’t wait to read it.”
While Maite doesn't know the main plot points of season 2, she is still torn about the events of season 1. Reflecting on the first season, she realizes that the possibility of Alma running away with Dario to start a new life likely wasn't in the cards for the duo.
“I don’t know because I think she was stuck in her life and she suddenly realized that she needed something else. Alma and Dario were very connected, but at the same time, [their affair] was something crazy for her because she had a lot of responsibilities,” she says. “I don’t think she would’ve gone with him because I never think about him without ever thinking he’s crazy.”
Reconsidering her response, she adds, "But maybe she would. If she didn’t think he was so crazy, maybe she would do it. She would be crazy with him but after watching all the things he did, I don’t know."
