MINTY BETS: Hello, everyone. It's time for my weekly make believe bets. Last week, we talked about if simulation games were going to be a normal thing to bet on, and this week we'll kind of stick to that topic. In this episode, we'll set some totals for some Madden player ratings.
Let's discuss the three most popular quarterbacks. Let's start with Lamar Jackson. His player rating last year was 92. Let's set the total at 96 and 1/2. Matt, what do you think? Lamar Jackson.
MATT GOTHARD: I'm going over. I'm going over because I was shocked that he was a 92. I thought he was gonna be like a 97, 98. The man is a speed demon in that game. If you play with him, it's pretty much a cheat code. He's got an amazing arm.
I don't know why he's not a 99. I could see him easily being a 98. So I'm taking the over. Jared, you're probably taking the over too.
JARED QUAY: Yeah, he's the cover boy. He's got to go over. I'm gonna take over. I'm a Ravens fan now. I just became a diehard Ravens fan, obviously, when my brother went there. But also I think Lamar Jackson has a lot of speed and a lot of elements that other quarterbacks don't.
I will say this. I'm not gonna say that his arm is not good, but I don't think throwing power and accuracy is what we're going off of. They can take that from him. But he's literally one of the best running backs and the best quarterbacks in the NFL. That combined should give him at least 96, 97.
MINTY BETS: All right, agreed, agreed. Next up, we'll move on to Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals. It'll be his first year. Let's set the rating at 75. Matt.
MATT GOTHARD: I'm gonna say 76.
MINTY BETS: 76.
MATT GOTHARD: 76 because they need him to be good because we've hyped him up so much. There's no way he could be less than 75. I mean, everybody and their mother is saying he's gonna be the thing that brings the Bengals back. So I bet you he starts at a 76. I don't he's gonna actually be that good, but I'm gonna still say over.
MINTY BETS: Right. And 75 is kind of a good average for a rookie quarterback, right?
MATT GOTHARD: Yeah, I'd say it's all right.
MINTY BETS: Yeah. All right, Jared, do you agree? Over?
JARED QUAY: Well, he's in the conference with my brother. So in real life, I don't think he's gonna be that good, all right? But in this game, he's the number one overall pick. The Bengals only have like five players. He's got to be one of their star players.
He's gonna be an X-factor player. I'm gonna go over. I'm feeling an over vibe today.
MINTY BETS: OK, I'm leaning under, but I really don't have much to say about this one, so let's move on to Tua Tagovailoa for the Miami Dolphins. 73. Oh, Matt, what do you think? Over or under 73 Madden rating?
MATT GOTHARD: Jared, what are you picking?
JARED QUAY: No, you just want to go the opposite of me. I want to go after you--
MATT GOTHARD: I know.
JARED QUAY: --so I can pick the same thing as you. No, I want to pick--
MINTY BETS: That's not how it works.
JARED QUAY: --the same thing as you.
MATT GOTHARD: I'm saying he's over. I'm saying he's over. The man is an amazing quarterback. He had a hurt hip last year, but he's still got some athletic ability on the ground. That seems to be a really good factor in Madden, so I'm gonna say over. Please say under, Jared.
JARED QUAY: No, I'm not gonna say under because I'm following you, baby. We're gonna both be right today. Ain't no wrong today. No, honestly, I just said over all three.
This is a lower rating. Of course he's not gonna be rated higher than Joe Burrow. But 72? That's embarrassing if they put him at 69 in a game. There's gonna be a lot of people in Miami that need Madden.
MINTY BETS: I'm kind of leaning under 73. Yeah, it's a lower rating. But I think because of his little hip injury, it might affect the power and the deep throwing accuracy. So I will lean under. There you go, Matt, we are not all three on the over if that makes you feel a little better.
MATT GOTHARD: It does. Minty doesn't play Madden, but she's probably gonna get more of these right--
MINTY BETS: Maybe I'll start.
MATT GOTHARD: --than we are.
