MAD Ball 2022 Honors Cristina Grajales and Jeffrey Gibson

The gallerist Cristina Grajales and the artist Jeffrey Gibson were honored this week by the Museum of Arts and Design during its annual MAD Ball benefit at its home in New York City, at 2 Columbus Circle, not too far away from T&C headquarters. Grajales, as a matter of fact, was included in the magazine's the O.G. 150 earlier this year, with contributor Wendy Goodman describing her as "one of my spirit guides for her prescient instinct for ferreting out new talent and shedding light on the work of iconic artists. At MAD, Grajales was introduced by collector Beth Rudin DeWoody. "When I was growing up in Pereira, a small city in the coffee region of Colombia, I never expected that I would be standing in front of all of you at the Museum of Arts and Design,” said Grajales, who recently curated an exhibit titled "Las Tres Pieles (The Three Skins)" in her hometown's Museo de Arte de Pereira. Gibson, a fixture in MAD's collection, was singled out for a multifaceted practice that incorporates painting, textile, performance and video. The late Jerome A. Chazen, MAD's chairman emeritus who passed in February, was remembered for a lifetime of support for the 66-year-old museum, including championing its move to midtown to what is now called the Jerome and Simona Chazen Building. They were all celebrated before a crowd that included T&C contributor Ruben Toledo, Chiara Clemente, artist Misha Kahn and designers Lisa Perry and Rebecca Hessel Cohen.
