Macaulay Culkin Is the Perfect Fit For the Bizarro 'American Horror Story' Universe

From Esquire

American Horror Story—Ryan Murphy’s long-running anthology series that has given us everything from spooky nuns to murderous witches—is prepping for what might be its final season.

So, it’s no surprise that Murphy is pulling out all the stops. After missing Season Nine, American Horror Story 1984 (which threw back to the campy slashers of the ’80s) Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters are set to return for Season 10. But what would a new season of American Horror Story be without some new faces? According to a solemn and mysterious Instagram post from Murphy, Esquire’s March cover star, Macaulay Culkin, will star in the new season.

Culkin is a natural fit for the high-energy and wonderfully weird series—and is his most high-profile role in years. After losing out in a part in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood (the audition was a bit of a disaster, apparently), it’s great to see Culkin team up with a different auteur in Murphy.

“No matter how much I act like a curmudgeonly old man, it’s still fun to get back in the saddle once in a while and play around,” Culkin told us about one of his most recent acting role, in last year’s Changeland.

No word yet on where American Horror Story Season 10 will take us. Some have speculated that the new season will be about urban legends, as in Bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster. And Murphy has kept quiet about his plans—although he sort-of shot down the idea that the show would go to space for an alien-themed adventure.

“I’m keeping mum,” Murphy told Deadline in November. “It would be hard because it’s called American Horror Story and you’d have to stay within the legal soil limits in order to make that work. We’re working on an idea for season 10 that I think people will love because it’s about reuniting fan-favorite actors to come back—because it might be our last season.”
