On the same day that the actor’s Rolling Stone cover debuted, Lupita re-created the stoic black-and-white image on her own, writing a comment for the ages. Clad in a pair of low-rise jeans, a shearling coat, and statement necklace, the actress channeled her costar's look to a T. Below the image, Lupita wrote, “Imitation is the best form of flattery.”
She went on to tell Chadwick, “I admire your quiet, confident, regal nature. You brought the wealth of all your knowledge, wisdom and physicality to T'Challa. You led us into the land of Wakanda without ego, without pretense, without fear. We reap the benefits now squarely because of your courage, your fierce dedication, your intense passion, and your grueling workout regimen. And I will never get enough of the way you say the word 'because.'" The actress also expanded on the film's success, noting, "We celebrate BREAKING BOX OFFICE RECORDS with [Black Panther] for many reasons, but chief among them is because we had you as our king. Enkosi Kumkani!" She ended the note by congratulating him on his Rolling Stone cover, and signed it: "From someone who loves you."
Lupita's humorous love letter to her co-star was taken by her hairstylist and friend, Vernon François, who is credited with the range of gorgeous natural hair styles the actress has worn on her Black Panther press tour. What’s more, this isn’t the first time Lupita has taken to Instagram in this way. Just two weeks ago, she did the same to Michael B. Jordan, sitting cross-legged on a silver chair in the same way that her co-star did in British GQ.
