Lucy Hale just shared another career close call—and you're going to want details.
Hale is starring in A Nice Girl Like You, a film in which her character decides to make a sex to-do list to become more sexually uninhibited. The movie has its racy moments, but Hale shared it's hardly the most risqué project she's auditioned for. In fact, she said she was almost involved in Fifty Shades of Grey, an experience that "scared the crap" out of her.
Hale opened up about the audition while speaking to the Associated Press. “I was very young. I forget…it had to have been, not 10 years ago, it was a while ago and I was mortified,” she said in the video. "It wasn't actual scenes from the movie, but it was a very sexually forward monologue, and I didn't really even know what I was saying in the audition."
Still, although it was uncomfortable, she remembered the experience being positive in the end. "I was a little naive about it all, but yes, I did audition," she said. "I obviously didn't get the part, but it was good for me because it scared the crap out of me to do an audition like that.”
The part of Anastasia Steele ultimately went to Dakota Johnson, but Hale has had quite a career as well. Aside from her iconic role on Pretty Little Liars, Hale recently starred in two sadly short-lived CW series, Katy Keane and Life Sentence. It's also not the only audition story she has up her sleeve; she recently opened up about an unaired pilot that she worked on with none other than Meghan Markle.
While she may have felt too “naive” for a role like Anastasia years ago, she's ready to step out of her comfort zone for A Nice Girl Like You. She recently spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the importance of woman owning their sexuality and opening up about sex.
"We should embrace who we are and we should embrace our sexuality because that's so much of who we are. How we express ourselves, how we are in relationships," she said. "And this movie is more on the nose, but like, 'Let's go to a strip club! Let's do all these things.' But the takeaway should be, own whoever it is that you are, whatever it is that you love. Own it."
