Luann de Lesseps escapes handcuffs in Palm Beach, but can’t escape her legal problems

Bravo fans and countess supporters applauded Luann de Lesseps when she took a hard but hilarious tumble in the bushes in Punta Mita, Mexico, during Season 9 of the Real Housewives of New York City. But when the 52-year-old divorcée threatened a police officer in Palm Beach, Fla., and slithered out of her handcuffs like Harry Houdini about two weeks ago, the countess’s moral compass fell into question, as discussed on Wednesday’s episode of The Morning Breath.

Arrested in the early hours of Christmas Eve, de Lesseps allegedly entered the wrong hotel room with a former fling and when asked to leave, locked herself in the bathroom and resisted arrest by local police. After reportedly threatening the officer’s life, the former model managed to slip out of her handcuffs, but she failed to escape the residual shame.

Since the Dec. 24 arrest, the housewife has returned to New York and has pleaded not guilty to four charges, which is surprising to some considering she has voluntarily admitted herself to an alcohol treatment center.

The best news of all (besides the mugshot that will live on forever)? Production for Season 10 is in full swing, and imaginations are already running wild as to how the arrest and the aftermath will be packaged for the spring premiere.

To those who are calling for the countess’s firing from Housewives, shame on you for undermining the drama that makes the show! Because as we know from Teresa Giudice’s return to the Real Housewives of New Jersey, there’s nothing like a little legal trouble to rake in the ratings.
