LSU basketball's losing streak extends to 12 as Tigers fall to Texas A&M at home

BATON ROUGE - There are dry spells and then there are droughts.

LSU basketball is in a drought.

The Tigers lost again Saturday, falling 74-62 at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center to Texas A&M. It was the Tigers' 12th consecutive loss, as their winless 2023 continues.

LSU (12-13, 1-11 SEC) trailed 41-17 at the midway point after only making six field goals and shooting 26.1% from the floor. The Tigers also got smashed on the glass, getting outrebounded 17-11 by the Aggies (18-7, 10-2).

LSU played a lot better in the second half, at one point cutting the Texas A&M lead down to eight. The Tigers even outshot the Aggies by a significant margin.

But, once again, LSU didn't have enough firepower to complete the comeback.

Adam Miller finished the night with a team-high 18 points for LSU, while Texas A&M guard Wade Taylor IV led the Aggies with 23 points.

Thankfully for LSU, a win may finally be coming soon. The Tigers face Georgia, South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Ole Miss over their next four games.

A promising performance for Tyrell Ward

Ward, who has earned more minutes in recent games, had his best night as a Tiger on Saturday. The former top-35 national recruit and freshman scored 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor.

He was the LSU offense in the first half. He had the Tigers' only field goal until the 7:23 mark.

Despite his considerable resume as a recruit, Ward just hadn't been aggressive in looking for his shot this season. Perhaps Saturday's performance changes that moving forward.

KJ Williams disappears

The last few games have been discouraging for KJ Williams.

LSU's leading scorer entered Saturday having been held under his season average – 16.5 points – over the last five games. In the Tigers' last two games against Alabama and Mississippi State, he took fewer than 10 shots and scored 18 points in the two games combined.

Unfortunately for Tigers fans, Saturday didn't quell any of those concerns. Williams had arguably his worst performance of the season, scoring just five points on four field goal attempts.
