Loved ‘Game of Thrones’? Get Ready for This Major New Netflix Series from the Same Masterminds

If you loved Game of Thrones, feast your eyes on the next best thing to the highly anticipated prequel.

GoT creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are re-teaming up to develop an all-new adaptation of a popular science fiction trilogy. The series will be based on Chinese author Liu Cixin’s The Three-Body Problem, which introduces viewers to an alternate history.

“Liu Cixin’s trilogy is the most ambitious science-fiction series we’ve read, taking readers on a journey from the 1960s until the end of time, from life on our pale blue dot to the distant fringes of the universe,” Benioff and Weiss said in a statement, according to USA Today. “We look forward to spending the next years of our lives bringing this to life for audiences around the world.”

The Three-Body Problem is a fictional story about the earth’s first contact with alien life. The interaction occurs as a result of three solar-type stars that have unstable orbital mechanics (aka a three-body problem).

The Three-Body Problem is the first novel in Cixin’s trilogy, titled Remembrance of Earth’s Past. While it’s followed by The Dark Forest and Death’s End, most readers refer to the entire series as The Three-Body Problem.

In addition to the new series, Benioff and Weiss are developing multiple projects for Netflix, including The Chair and Metal Lords. Contrary to popular belief, they’re not affiliated with the GoT prequel series (at least to our knowledge).

The streaming service hasn’t released any further details (including the cast and premiere date) about The Three-Body Problem. Still, we’ll take what we can get.
