Reality star and influencer Kaz Crossley has reportedly been jailed in Dubai on suspicion of drug offences.

Crossley, who took part in the 2018 series of Love Island, was apparently detained at Abu Dhabi airport whilst waiting for a connecting flight to Thailand. It's believed the arrest is related to a video from November 2020, which allegedly shows Crossley sniffing a white powder whilst partying in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates.

A source, as reported by The Sun, said of the arrest, "[Kaz] was looking forward to getting back to Thailand where she has been doing voluntary work and all of a sudden she is languishing in a Dubai jail. She was allowed to send just one email and wasn't even allowed to make a phone call.

"She messaged one particular friend whose email she could remember and asked her to inform her family that she was OK but had been arrested for drugs offences. The arrest wasn't because of anything she had on her. As far as we know it is all down to that video."

The country in the Middle East is known to have a strict zero-tolerance policy on drugs. "Possession of even the smallest amount of illegal drugs can lead to a minimum three-month prison term or a fine not less than AED 20,000 [£4,561] and not exceeding AED 100,000 [£22,805]," a page on the UK government's website, advising on foreign travel, states.

Rules relating to alcohol consumption are also stricter than they are in the UK, with law dictating "it is a punishable offence under UAE law to drink or be under the influence of alcohol in public" and general advice being to only drink in private spaces, such as the home.

A Foreign Office spokesman told Cosmopolitan UK: "We are providing consular assistance to a British national who was arrested in the United Arab Emirates and are in contact with the local authorities."

Cosmopolitan UK have reached out to Crossley's team for comment and will update this story in due course.
