Which Love Island contestants were scouted by producers, and which actually applied?
Summer is officially upon us: the sun is shining, holidays are booked, and Love Island is *finally* back on our screens. The show has returned for its eighth season, with episode one hitting screens last night (6th June), and there's a brand spanking new cast to get invested in.
We might have only been tuning in for one episode, but we're already very obsessed with this year's contestants - from Gemma Owen and her famous relative, to adorable (and hilarious) fishmonger Luca Bish.
Still, when it comes to Love Island contestants, one topic that crops up every year is the speculation over which cast members actually applied for the show, and which ones were scouted by producers. So, how does the split look for 2022?
Love Island 2022 has seen 11 contestants entering the villa so far, with a huge 100,000 applicants reportedly applying, according to MailOnline. However, out of the 11 that made it onto the show, it's thought that only three actually applied without being scouted, the publication reports. That means the remaining eight contestants were reportedly approached by ITV producers to take part.
Those scouted by producers are thought to include Gemma Owen (the daughter of former England footballer Michael Owen), according to the Mail on Sunday, as well as Indiyah Polack, Davide Sanclimenti, Ikenna Ekwonna, Luca Bish and Liam Llewellyn.
Amber Beckford was also apparently approached by ITV, but instead decided to put herself forwards via the publication application process. The other three contestants who applied for the show without being contacted are paramedic Paige Thorne, estate agent Andrew Le Page, and microbiologist Dami Hope, 26, according to reports.
Still, only the first 11 cast members have been announced so far, so it's not known which route any bombshells or Casa Amor contestants will have taken to enter the villa.
This isn't the first time the chat surrounding Love Island applicants has surfaced. Back in 2019, it was reportedly revealed that then flight attendant Amy Hart was the only contestant to apply, with the rest apparently scouted.

A Love Island spokesperson told Cosmopolitan UK, "All Islanders would go through the same process before entering the villa, whether they apply or are approached."
