I’m consistently shocked – and feeling like an old, out-of-touch, 25-year-old geezer – when I see some things that are deemed ~newsworthy~ in the world of teens (no offense, teens!!). One such news item is the fact that school kids around the world – seriously, around the WORLD – think it’s absolutely hilarious that their report card grades are spelling out the word “DAB.”

As first reported by Buzzfeed, teens in the U.K. recently got back their A-level grades and took to Twitter en masse to celebrate the incidental LOLs of their marks spelling out “DAB.”

The significance of “DAB,” for the uninitiated:

“Dab” is a relatively new(ish) dance move popularized within the last year. It originated with the Atlanta rap group Migos, and skyrocketed internationally during Week 10 of the 2015 NFL season, when it became the go-to move for a celebratory dance interlude. Panthers quarterback Cam Newton’s dab was the most prominent, largely because it lasted about eight seconds and didn’t stop even when opposing players approached him about it.

Newton’s infamous dab, for reference, because me trying to describe it in words will probably just be embarrassing:

As is the case with most trends, one teen pointed out that their grades spelled out “DAB” and shared a pic of their report card. It soon caught like wildfire and SO MANY KIDS shared their own version, with some actually dabbing as they held up their “DAB” grades.

Some teens pointed out that maybe getting a “D” in a class wasn’t celebratory, but this seems to be a kind of “making lemonade out of lemons” situation. Which is good, I guess. Right?
