A lot that’s sat vacant for years just south of Wisconsin State Fair Park in West Allis is getting a Dunkin’ restaurant with a drive-thru.

Dunkin' is the world's leading baked goods and coffee chain, serving more than 3 million customers a day, according to the company website. Dunkin’ offers 50-plus varieties of doughnuts, plus beverages, bagels, breakfast sandwiches and other baked goods.

Here’s what we know about the one coming to West Allis.

Where will the restaurant be?

Dunkin’ will be at 7801 W. Greenfield Ave. on a parcel that’s been vacant since 2015, according to city documents. Ravi Pandya of Pandya Network, a Dunkin’ franchisee, purchased the site and is proposing a two-tenant building with a Dunkin’ restaurant on one side and a restaurant tenant to be named later on the other.

When will it be open?

The exact opening date isn’t known, but construction on the new Dunkin’ is expected to be completed by this fall.

What will the hours be?

Proposed hours are daily from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Has the city of West Allis approved of the proposal?

Zoning requires restaurants to obtain a conditional use permit. The permit was recommended by the West Allis Plan Commission on March 22 and approved unanimously by the city’s common council on April 18.

When did Dunkin’ Donuts drop the ‘Donuts’ from its name?

Dunkin’ Donuts rebranded as Dunkin’ in 2018. The change was meant to simplify and modernize the name and reflect the fact that the restaurant has moved beyond doughnuts into the beverage market and is also diversifying its food selection.

Will the location have outside seating?

Yes. An outdoor dining space would be located on the east side of the building.
