'The Long Road Home' premiere sneak peek: Taking fire

The soldiers of The Long Road Home will have to show plenty of courage under fire.

The National Geographic Channel’s eight-episode miniseries, based on Martha Raddatz’s bestselling book, follows a platoon ambushed in Sadr City, Baghdad, on April 4, 2004 — an attack that came to be known as “Black Sunday.”

In this exclusive sneak peek from the Nov. 7 premiere, a squad led by Lt. Shane Aguero (E.J. Bonilla) is patrolling when they realize the streets are eerily quiet. Something is wrong — as they soon find out, when shots are fired. Suddenly, a routine drive turns dangerous and the soldiers are fighting for their lives.

It’s up to battalion commander Lt. Col. Gary Volesky (Michael Kelly) and Capt. Troy Denomy (Jason Ritter) to lead a daring rescue operation and recover their people.

The miniseries flashes between the action in Iraq and the excruciating and emotional turmoil experienced by the soldiers’ families back home in Texas. The cast also includes Kate Bosworth, Sarah Wayne Callies, Jeremy Sisto, and Noel Fisher.

The Long Road Home premieres Nov. 7 on National Geographic Channel.
