The celebrated film My Neighbor Totoro can serve as a much-needed distraction right now, especially during a week of an otherwise dreadful news cycle. The uplifting storyline follows two young sisters who escape the grim reality of their hospitalized mother by exploring a new home and a lush countryside. Along the way, they meet magical spirits and befriend the likes of Totoro, a giant cuddly bunny. It's warmhearted escapism at its purest, weaving in adventure without plot, sadness with joy. It feels oddly significant during troubling times like these.

Now, Loewe is joining forces with the movie's director Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli for a collection that will bring a much-needed smile to your face. Featuring imagery from the 1988 animated cult classic, the playful partnership speaks directly to your inner child and film buff (who happens to love fine designer goods).

"The connection between LOEWE and Studio Ghibli is this mutual love of craft and artisanal techniques, expressed in our respective languages." creative director Jonathan Anderson stated in the brand's press release. While Anderson has worked with stores like Paula's Ibiza and several artists, this marks one of Loewe's most high-profile collaborations.

The childlike sensibilities of the movie lend themselves naturally to Anderson's whimsical aesthetic. Two icons meet in the form of the Loewe's Puzzle bag, featuring Totoro splashed along the side (Totoro also happens to be Studio Ghibli's mascot). Dust bunnies are revealed in the form of fluffy pompoms that hang from a leather moto jacket and trim a pair of shorts. Intarsia landscapes and scenery from the movie are printed on tote bags and sweatshirts with the Loewe logo superimposed on top.

"The message is one of dreamy serenity and hands-on creativity—of being at one with nature and with one’s own inner child—which is especially important right now and, I think, always will be."

The collection drops today online at Loewe.com and select stores nationwide.
