Local police department's Christmas-themed warning goes viral
A Massachusetts police department's sign has gone viral for its creativity amid the holiday season.
On Tuesday, the Freetown Police Department took to Facebook to share a photo of a message posted for drivers along an unidentified road.
"He sees when you're speeding," the department's sign read. "He knows when you don't brake. He knows if you've had a few, so don't go over .08."
The message, which is a play on John Frederick Coots and Haven Gillespie's popular Christmas hit "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town," immediately went viral on the social media platform. The post received over 1,000 reactions and was shared nearly 7,000 times.
Dozens of well-wishers also took to the comments section, along with a few jokers.
"The Freetown police department is the best.. very friendly staff and clean rooms.." one person wrote. "I will definitely be staying there again.. merry Christmas to you guys and all our first responders."
"Thank you for your service and sacrifices for keeping our families safe," another person wrote. "Merry Christmas and please have a safe and Happy New Year."
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, an average of 300 people died in drunk driving-related incidents between Christmas and New Year every year from 2012 and 2016.
During that five-year span, a total of 14,472 people died in the month of December alone.
