Lizzo is inspiration on literally every level: her music gets our own creative juices flowing, her beauty looks kick off lasting trends, and her words help guide people in a more positive, less hateful direction. And a new post that she shared on Instagram falls into the latter two categories with both an adorable hairstyle and an amazing message.
"You have the power to make kindness sexy. You never know what somebody is going through," Lizzo wrote in the caption of a selfie video she posted to Instagram on Sunday, August 30. We see that she's wearing her hair, which has recently been in partial locs, in a new style: half-up space buns. The two cute balls of hair sit atop her head, wrapped at the base, surrounded by long strands left down.
If that doesn't make you want to try something new, than maybe what Lizzo says in the video will. "Hey, so I get it. You want to be viral. We've seen people make viral posts, become, you know, internet celebrities, and actually start making money and have careers. I get the appeal. But here's a challenge. We, as a people, how about we stop rewarding negativity? How about we stop boosting hurtful and hateful things on the internet?" she says directly into the camera.
“If you see a post about somebody and it's maybe something you wouldn't want to hear about yourself or someone you love, how about not share it? How about not repost it? Even if you don't like it, don't like-hate it. You know?” she continues. "And why don't we reward positive things? How about we reward good things that we see on the internet?"
Lizzo goes on to encourage her fans to change what they share on social media. "Here's a challenge today and today only, and hopefully for the rest of your days: When you see something on the internet, that's good, boost that. And don't boost this negative bullying that we've gotten used to."
Unlike other challenges on Instagram, she hasn't assigned a catchy hashtag to it — she just wants people to think before they post and spread love instead of hate. And you know what would be a good place to start? Sharing Lizzo's video.
