Lizzo Is Trying to Trademark "100% That Bitch" for a New Merch Line

This is Lizzo's year. I mean, did you see her shut down the stage at the MTV VMAs, where she performed in front of a giant inflatable booty? She's got incredible style, the catchiest hits, and a body-positive, inspirational vibe that we can't get enough of. Lizzo is an icon, and she's about to get even more iconic with a new merch line featuring one of her signature lyrics from "Truth Hurts."

The Blast reports that Lizzo recently filed requesting to trademark "100% that bitch," which features prominently in "Truth Hurts." She sings, "I just took a DNA test, turns out I'm 100% that bitch," she sings in the song, which first debuted in 2017 and is currently climbing the charts. The Blast reports that Lizzo wants to use the phrase on "clothing merchandise like t-shirts, jackets, jerseys, beanies, hats, bandanas and wristbands."

It is worth noting that there is some controversy around the lyrics. Dazed reports that a musician named Mina Lioness has accused Lizzo of stealing the line from one of her tweets, which she wrote in February of 2017; "Truth Hurts" was released later that year. Lizzo has denied the claim and attributed it to an Instagram meme, and Mina Lioness has continued to speak up via her Twitter account.

Lizzo's official merch store only has a few pieces at the moment, including a baseball cap and hoodie emblazoned with the words "Coconut oil" and a shirt reading "I don't need a crown to know that I'm a queen." Her Warner Music store does feature a "100% that bitch" tee, though it appears she's got grand plans for more merch featuring the empowering lyrics.
