Lizzo’s “Tempo” Music Video Takes American Cowgirl Style to the Extreme

The country-western trend has officially taken over this summer. You can thank Lil Nas X for that, the rapper who propelled that yeehaw-fashion look forward when he released his smash hit, “Old Town Road.” Today, another musical act shared her take on the aesthetic: Lizzo released her new music video for “Tempo,” featuring Missy Elliott, and she took American cowgirl style to a whole other level—an even more extra level, if you can believe it.

In the new clip, Lizzo parties outside of a diner with her crew in her best rhinestone-rodeo ensemble: it includes a sequined two-piece covered with a faux-fur cape, pointy white cowboy boots, and a red cowboy hat. Call it a more theatrical, showy take on that giddy-up trend. Meanwhile, her co-star Elliott, who is dropping her own album soon, dressed up in her signature Misdemeanor-era outfits, including a “Tempo” logo’d tracksuit and a graphic sweater worn with tights and platform sneakers—both outfits with a huge “Iconic” necklace, of course.
