Lizzo called out Tik Tok for removing her bikini videos

Lizzo sees you, TikTok, and she just wants to talk. The “Truth Hurts” singer took to TikTok the other day and called out the platform for removing videos of her dancing in a bikini. Her call-out video received over 10 million views and 2 million likes, and because of the backlash, TikTok had no choice but to address the issue.

“Tiktok keeps taking down my videos with me in my bathing suits,” Lizzo wrote over a video of herself getting her hair done and singing along to another user’s audio (which is a female voice singing “I know” on repeat). She then added, “But allows other videos with girls in bathing suits.”

She ended the video with the caption, “I wonder why Tiktok…we need to talk.”

Clearly, the implication here is that TikTok removed Lizzo’s videos because her body type is, well, different than that of other well-known users. Being the body-positivity advocate she is, Lizzo felt the need to bring attention to the company’s favoring of one body type over another.

However, after Lizzo’s TikTok went viral, a spokesperson for the platform told Page Six that there was no discrimination at play. Rather, Lizzo’s bikini videos didn’t initially meet TikTok’s community guidelines because it appeared that Lizzo was showing her underwear rather than her bathing suit.

Therefore, after reaching out and making amends with Lizzo’s team, TikTok restored the video in question.

Lizzo has resumed posting TikToks, so all appears to be well between herself and the platform. And honestly, thank goodness, because let’s be honest—we only downloaded that app for Lizzo content like this gem:

Though the removal of Lizzo’s video seemed to be a mistake, we’ll definitely be keeping our eyes on Lizzo’s feed for other potential video disappearing acts.
