The Living Room Is Typically the Messiest Room in the House, According To This Survey
Raise your hand if no matter how much you tidy up your home, there's always that one room that remains perpetually cluttered. Well, in most households, that space is usually the living room, according to a recent survey.
Joybird, a cult-favorite furniture retailer, conducted a survey to learn more about how people in the United States approached organizing their homes in 2020. Based on responses from more than 1,900 people, the survey found that more than 80 percent of respondents took time to organize, declutter, and even redecorate their homes last year. What's more, nearly 50 percent of those surveyed cleaned their homes every week.
To get a better idea of what areas people spent all that time cleaning, the survey asked which rooms were the most consistently messy. While the living room topped the list at 22.2 percent of responses, two other living spaces were also deemed a constant mess. With 21.5 percent of responses, the kitchen came in at close second as one of the most cluttered areas. And the third messiest room was the bedroom, totaling 21.4 percent of responses.
As for the sources of household clutter, most people said that top item that kept them busy was their laundry. After that, children's toys were the most common cause of clutter.
