‘Little Women’ Fans: There Are Three New Adaptations You Should Know About
There are three new Little Women adaptations currently on our radar, and our to-watch lists couldn't be more pleased.
The one available now is the PBS- and BBC-backed miniseries broadcast during summer 2018 by Masterpiece on PBS. It’s adapted from Louisa May Alcott's classic book by Heidi Thomas, who also created Call the Midwife. The series stars Maya Hawke, Kathryn Newton, Willa Fitzgerald, and Annes Elwy as the four March sisters, with appearances by Emily Watson as Marmee and Angela Lansbury as Aunt March. This Little Women is a three-hour three-parter which you can stream online with a Thirteen Passport Video subscription.

There’s also a modern retelling being released this year in celebration of the book’s 150th anniversary. This Little Women movie is a contemporary update that follows the March family as they deal with some of the challenges of today—including plenty of sibling quibbling and testing of sisterly bonds. It’s set to be released in late September 2018.

But that’s not all, Little Women fans. The most exciting Little Women film adaptation of all (second only, perhaps, to the 1994 film version) is on the horizon. It’s a Greta Gerwig-directed feature currently in production. Rumor has it the casting includes Meryl Streep, Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Laura Dern, Eliza Scanlen, Florence Pugh, and Timothée Chalamet in an embarrassment of Little Women riches. The film is said to be aiming for a late 2019 release, so keep your eyes peeled for further casting and production information on this one.
