Little Simz Breaks All the Red Carpet Suiting Rules

U.K. rapper, actress, and photographer Little Simz is unafraid to break the rules when it comes to the classic suit. At the Mercury Prize Awards last month, Simz paired a super wide-lapeled Gucci skirt suit with a pair of mustard yellow socks and heeled red loafers. For the premiere of Topboy, the Drake-produced Netflix series that Simz stars in, she added a sultry twist on a crisp bright red suit with a sheer, lacy shirt that peeked out from underneath the blazer.

For Simz’s red carpet appearance at the Q Magazine Awards earlier today — where she won an award for best vocal performance — Simz yet again redefined the classic suit. On first glance, Simz’s autumnal plaid suit might look relatively traditional, but a closer look reveals a surprising silhouette. Instead of fitting loose on the ankles like most pairs of slacks, Simz’s trousers are finished with very narrow cuffs, which creates a billowing, almost Aladdin-esque effect in the leg. Another unconventional touch is the shirt which is done in the same pattern as the jacket and pants.
