Lindsie Chrisley reportedly hires off-duty cop to protect her amid family drama

Lindsie Chrisley is concerned for her safety after accusing her father and half-brother of extortion over an alleged sex tape with a Bachelorette star.

Lindsie, who has been estranged from her family for two years, reportedly hired an off-duty police officer to protect her around the clock. She told TMZ the extra security was "for my safety." The former Chrisley Knows Best star is spending around $130 per hour for armed protection, according to the outlet.

When asked if her parents have made her feel unsafe, Lindsie told TMZ, "I just think that any time that something like this goes on within a family and the things that have gone on in the past week, that it’s important for me to protect my safety and for my child."

Lindsie's lawyer told Fox News she amped up security at his request over the nature of the high-profile case, not specifically over concerns of retaliation from her family. However, a source told TMZ the concerns are real and that Lindsie went to her local police department to express fear over her father or brothers getting violent.

Chrisley family drama is playing out in the press after Todd and Julie Chrisley turned themselves in on tax evasion and other federal charges.

Lindsie and her brother Kyle are Todd's two children from his first marriage to Teresa Chrisley Terry. Todd and Julie also have three children together: Chase, Savannah and Grayson. In July, Lindsie, 29, filed a police report claiming Todd and Chase, 23, harassed and threatened her. (They have denied any wrongdoing.) According to Lindsie, Todd and Chase "wanted her to lie about an incident" related to the financial crimes her dad and stepmother now face. If she didn't comply, "they were going to release the sex tape involving her," she claimed.

In a statement blasting Lindsie's allegations, Todd named not one, but two Bachelorette stars she allegedly had affairs with while married. "It’s heartbreaking and shameful that these kinds of accusations have to be aired in public. We have tried to keep Lindsie’s extramarital relationships with Robby Hayes and Josh Murray private for her sake since August of 2016," he said. "Sadly, for reasons we can only guess at, she ran to the sheriff’s office to accuse her brother of buying a sex tape of her and Robby, which was a complete lie, and now she’s telling more lies about me. Although our hearts are broken, Lindsie is our daughter and we will always love her."

Lindsie's lawyer strongly denied insinuations she was behind Todd's indictment. He also said she is not holding out hope for a family reunion. "Lindsie never had a sincere gesture from her father [to reunite]," her attorney Musa Ghanayem told People. "We don’t even know how to react if she was given a sincere opportunity to reunite."

In response to Tuesday’s news that Lindsie hired extra security, Todd issued a statement to People.

"As I’ve said before, it’s heartbreaking that Lindsie feels the need to air her private issues in public. But whatever she says, she is still my daughter and Chase and Savannah’s sister," he told the magazine.

"We have always loved her, we will always love her, and we are here for her," added the 50-year-old reality star.
