Lily Tomlin on Dolly Parton Potentially Joining the Seventh Season of Grace and Frankie

"We've got a great role for her this time. I think she will do it."

Is it possible to adore the laugh-out-loud funny Netflix sitcom Grace and Frankie starring Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda any more than we already do? We didn't think so.

Well, it may very well be possible, thanks to new intel from Tomlin revealed on a recent appearance on Today with Hoda & Jenna. Beaming in remotely to hosts Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb, Tomlin discusses several topics, from why she thinks viewers are so drawn to Grace and Frankie to producing the movie Radium Girls and an accompanying petition with The Sierra Club to ban and clean up toxic "forever chemicals."

While discussing the smash hit series, the actor dropped some exciting news about a potential Dolly Parton role in the seventh and final season. When the co-hosts asked if the rumors of a Parton cameo were true, Tomlin said of her and Fonda's former 9 to 5 co-star, "we're always hoping that will happen." She then added, "We've got a great role for her this time. I think she will do it. I'm just hoping she will. And we hope she can do it, and we think she can do it by remote."

As Tomlin puts it, Parton is "unbelievably busy...always writing books or writing songs or doing something for people or helping people in Tennessee totally." (Or, you know, saving the world by partially funding the Moderna coronavirus vaccine.) Even though scheduling things with her may be a logistic hurdle, we're keeping our fingers crossed they can find a way to make a Parton appearance in season seven work. Watch the full interview below.

What do you think the "great role" is that they have in mind for the Smoky Mountain Songbird? We sure hope some singing and sequins are involved.
