Lily Rose Depp’s Parents ‘Protected’ Her From Fame—She’s ‘Careful’ About Nepo Baby Conversations

The firstborn of Vanessa Paradis and Johnny Depp, Lily-Rose Depp has made a name for herself as a successful model and actress. With the hype of The Idol coming out, many fans are wondering what her relationship is like with her parents.
Vanessa Paradis and Johnny Depp became linked in 1998 and had Lily-Rose the following year. They also have a younger son named Jack, born 2002. The pair officially broke things off in 2012. In an interview with Rolling Stone years ago, Depp hinted at the reason for his breakup with the model. He opened up about their relationship, noting at first that he was having a hard time after their split. “The last couple of years have been a bit bumpy,” Depp shared with the magazine in 2005. “At times, certainly unpleasant, but that’s the nature of breakups, I guess, especially when there are kiddies involved.”

“Relationships are very difficult,” he went on to note at the time, before alluding to distance and work schedules playing a factor in their split. “Especially in the racket that I’m in because you’re constantly away or they’re away and so it’s hard. It wasn’t easy on her. It wasn’t easy on me. It wasn’t easy on the kids. So, yeah. The trajectory of that relationship — you play it out until it goes, one thing leads to another. So for whatever reason that ceases, it doesn’t stop the fact that you care for that person, and they’re the mother of your kids, and you’ll always know each other, and you’re always gonna be in each other’s lives because of those kids. You might as well make the best of it.”
On the topic of being a Nepo Baby, she expressed to Elle in November 2022, “The internet seems to care a lot about that kind of stuff. People are going to have preconceived ideas about you or how you got there, and I can definitely say that nothing is going to get you the part except for being right for the part.” She continued,“The internet cares a lot more about who your family is than the people who are casting you in things. Maybe you get your foot in the door, but you still just have your foot in the door. There’s a lot of work that comes after that.”

She rearranged her thoughts about being a Ne. “I’m so careful about these conversations now,” Lily-Rose told i-D in an article published February 20, 2023. “I feel like my parents did the best job that they possibly could at giving me the most ‘normal childhood’ that they could.
