Lightning's Erik Cernak suspended 2 games for elbowing Sabres' Dahlin

Tampa Bay Lightning defenceman Erik Cernak has been suspended two games for an errant elbow delivered to the face of Buffalo Sabres defenceman Rasmus Dahlin on Monday night, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced on Tuesday.

Cernak’s elbow came up just after Dahlin passed the puck to a teammate during a second period Sabres’ power play.

Dahlin left the game and did not return. After the contest, he was diagnosed with a concussion.

Here is the play that led to Dahlin’s injury:

"I think it’s better for me not to judge it right now," Sabres head coach Ralph Krueger said post-game to Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News.

"I know we have vehicles that will analyze and take a look at it. Let’s see what that judgment is because we’re emotionally connected to the situation and as wrong as it feels, that’s always from a bias viewpoint, which is ours. Let’s see the neutral bodies take a look at that."

Dahlin’s injury is a crushing loss for the Sabres as the Swede serves as the anchor of the team’s defence with a goal and 16 points in 24 games, while averaging 18:59 of ice-time per game.

Tampa Bay emerged from Monday’s game with a 5-2 victory over Buffalo.
