Liga MX president Enrique Bonilla says he tested positive for coronavirus

Liga MX president Enrique Bonilla announced he tested positive for coronavirus. In a statement, Bonilla confirmed the diagnosis, and said he has gone into quarantine.

Bonilla said he hasn’t experienced serious symptoms of the virus. He vowed to continue following the situation while in quarantine, and said he would act responsibly after being diagnosed.

Bonilla has been president of Liga MX since 2015. It’s unclear how he contracted COVID-19, though Bonilla recently traveled to Spain, according to ESPN. Spain has experienced 1,326 deaths due to the coronavirus. Its citizens are currently on lockdown.

It’s the second positive coronavirus diagnosis in Liga MX. On Wednesday, Atletico San Luis announced its president, Alberto Marrero, had tested positive for COVID-19. The statement said Marrero was stable.

Liga MX played games without fans as recently as March 13. The league has since suspended all matches.
